The Chemistry of Life (ages 12-16) - $90 per student - available in either two sessions for 1.5 hours each or one class for 3 hours

This unique class bridges biology and chemistry, delving into the reactions behind photosynthesis and cellular respiration. Through advanced labs and experiments, students will alter variables, analyze outcomes, and gain a deeper understanding of these vital processes. Designed to inspire curiosity and critical thinking, this course offers a hands-on exploration of biology’s foundations, fostering a true appreciation for the intricacies of life.

What will be covered:

  • Photosynthesis 

  • Cellular Respiration

  • Chemical equations & reactions

  • Developing an experiment

Activities and Labs offered:

  • Leaf lab for Photosynthesis

  • Yeast lab for Cellular Respiration

  • Altering the labs to compare results with the control 

  • Graphing, analyzing data, & presenting their findings

  • Using models to create the chemical equations

  • Assessment at the end of class with the option of having it be a take home and parents giving it later

Utah Science Standards covered*: 

8th Grade: 8.3.1, 8.3.2

High School Biology: BIO 1.1, BIO 1.2, BIO 1.3
